Marriage Laws U.S. Mississippi MS Wedding Officiants

Marriage license requirements in the state of Mississippi, here is what you need to bring with you, and what you need to know about the Mississippi marriage laws before applying for the Mississippi marriage license application. We recommend getting this legal aspect of your wedding out of the way about a month before your ceremony date.

It is important that you verify all information with your local marriage license office or county clerk before making any wedding or travel plans.

How to obtain a marriage license:

  1. To obtain a marriage license, both parties must apply in person at the Circuit Clerk's office.


  2. As of July 1, 2012, a blood test is no longer required to obtain a marriage license in Mississippi.


  3. No waiting period.


  4. The information must be supplied to the applicant in duplicate on a standard medical certificate form supplied by the Mississippi Department of Health.


  5. A Marriage License Application may be printed out and brought to the Circuit Clerk's office.

There is no waiting period from the time and date of application until the license can be issued by the Clerk.

The Marriage License fee is $21 + in cash.  The Marriage License issued by the Circuit Court Clerk is valid ONLY in the State of Mississippi.

Any ordained minister of the gospel who is in good standing with his or her church may perform marriages. Ministers must send a certificate of marriage to the clerk who issued the marriage license within three months after the marriage.

Name Change:

Getting a marriage license with your new name on it does not mean your name has automatically changed. If you need to change your last name, you can use an online marriage name change kit.
